Gw2 tumblr customs I am requesting ur random thoughts on how you think Sylvari cultural armor works
Like is it fastened to their skin?? Tin they abound it on themselves at will or is it created for them?? How can they remove information technology if it IS fastened??
Tbh I have no inkling if there'due south a proper in-game explanation for this, but even so I'g really curious how other people interpret it asdfghjkl
I have a lot of headcanons virtually this!!
So if you look at the unclothed sylvari model there's something that is truthful about them that the design team talked most during their redesign- i cant remember if this was in a video or web log post information technology'due south been so long- merely sylvari "grow" out of a single indicate on their body in the same way that a lot of plants do. Plain this doesn't interpret perfectly onto the form of something that is humanoid merely you can see information technology on them
You tin can see how they grow out from this spot at the base of the spine, it'southward non perfect but the flow of their pare and the way it's layered primarily comes from there.
at that place is SOME armor that also grows from a signal on the peel, such as the nightshade coat
the orchid armor
the medium twilight armor armor
At that place are a few more examples but to go on on, there is some armor that grows from a point, and I headcanon all of that armor as either being grown by the sylvari themself, or by a sylvari that is specialized every bit a shaper(which I volition explain in a fleck), and that armor is attached to the body.
And then shapers, what are they? This has been a specialized sylvari profession that I've encountered in sylvari rp since, honestly, 2012. Information technology's a sylvari with an analogousness for influencing plants, they've either trained to be expert at information technology or are naturally gifted (or both!) and they do things such equally making the sylvari plant homes, tend to the pods in and effectually the grove, and help out with making armor/habiliment for sylvari that can't grow it themself. The firstborn Kahedins is a shaper, but nosotros don't actually know much about them in catechism outside of what Kahedins has been attributed with doing, "Kahedins is a sylvari shaper, and since his enkindling, he has worked in shaping the unabridged Grove to make it habitable, as well every bit created the various mortar and trap seeds that are used by Wardens to defend The Grove."
Now, what about armor that is non attached to the body? That I think is what's made by sylvari smiths, such as Occam. Nosotros know for a fact that he actually made Bercilak'south green knight armor, and the help of that is easily removed so I don't consider it to be fastened to the torso.
Information technology'southward the nightmare court twilight arbor dungeon heavy armor, for reference
I consider this to be armor that needs to exist put on, probably with the help of another person, just still existence made of planty things- probably some kind of layering of unlike kinds of plant fibres if you want to get very technical in your rp about information technology- perchance a layer of something soft and squishy under the armor like typical padding, possibly some normal flexible leaf wear under it to protect the sylvari's skin from chafing ect ect- and the armor beingness alive, or at least beingness made of plant, means that afterwards it's initially been put on a sylvari shaper can then assist properly "buckle" it in place, using growing magic to help it conform better to the body, maybe linking the parts together to keep them on since information technology doesn't take buckles and clasps similar traditional armor
And and then that leads to armor that'southward not exactly similar this only too doesn't grow out from a signal, I consider that stuff to as well exist made by shapers, more than like clothes a sylvari can put on and and then either apply some growing magic to attach to their bodies to keep it in place, or simply slipped on like wearing apparel. These shapers I guess are similar tailors in the other races, would maybe fifty-fifty refer to themselves equally tailors.
So i estimate my answer to one of your question is that I consider some of it being grown past them and some of information technology having to be grown or shaped by another person or just separately from the torso and then put on. I always idea of them taking off fastened armor every bit sort of well, either tugging it off and breaking its connection to the body- something I headcanon as painless since the armor itself doesn't accept the ability to feel pain similar a office of the body- or I estimate cutting it off could as well work.
In that location'southward another fun questions similar "does it accept to be watered?" and while I like to go with no, lol, it doesn't have to be watered there is perhaps some maintenance. Armor made by a shaper or a blacksmith might need to be taken in every now and and so and be tinkered with, maybe those armor pieces need a bit of energy to maintain their forms and then they near need to be healed like a person? Or, and this is what I go with, the sylvari's armor draws free energy from its wearer- not enough to effect the sylvari, but when the sylvari is severely injured or physically exhausted their armor might lose some of its luster or fifty-fifty begin to wilt effectually the edges, maybe become less efficient at protecting them from damage if information technology's armor built to do that. So it would so be healed with rest, or the sylvari themself being healed.
I could probably say more, only I retrieve this post has gotten pretty long already!! Anyway, those are just my opinions and ideas, things from years of sylvari rp, and just trying to scour the lore as best I tin to effigy out how some of it might piece of work! None of this is the right fashion to rp information technology, and even if people don't agree I promise they enjoyed the read
